Smith says it is the first drug approved for erectile dysfunction and has not yet been shown in the United States, but he has received more than 25,000 applications for the drug for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension. He says he is working on a drug called Nitric Oxide which is similar to Viagra and has not yet been shown to work in men with erectile dysfunction.
The new drug, which is called sildenafil citrate and will be sold under the brand name Viagra, will be sold in Canada for $9.99 for a four-month supply and $8.99 for a four-month supply of the drug.

The New York-based pharmaceutical company that manufactures the drug says it has developed two clinical studies showing the drug works well for patients with erectile dysfunction and will make the first of its three available clinical trials.
In a statement, Pfizer said the company has submitted studies with the drug to be submitted for approval for a second clinical trial, which will run for about three weeks after it has received a positive response from a study.
In the two studies that were conducted on patients with erectile dysfunction, patients taking sildenafil citrate experienced a more than fivefold increase in their sexual ability, compared to those taking a placebo.
The three studies that were conducted on patients with erectile dysfunction, however, showed no significant difference between the two treatment groups.
The company said in its statement, "We are confident that this product will work well for many patients and we are working on developing a treatment that will offer patients the benefits of sildenafil."
The company also said it is "reviewing the safety and efficacy of sildenafil for pulmonary hypertension" and will "continually evaluate and update the clinical studies to assess for any additional safety and efficacy issues with this product."
The company is not disclosing the full amount of money it has made from the development of the drug and has said it has been working with the Food and Drug Administration on a marketing authorization process.
